Shipping Chicks by Air

Air cargo is the fastest and safest way to get chicks from our hatcher to your brooder, if you live close enough to an airport to pick them up. Chicks must be packed 25 to a box sector, ducklings 15 to a box sector -- your order must be in multiples of these numbers. Within BC, the small airlines that serve coastal communities (Harbour Air, Salt Spring Air, etc.) give wonderful service and are the most economical way to get your chicks. Pacific Coastal Airlines and Central Mountain Air provide service to a number of inland airports. For the rest of you, including customers in Alberta, there is WestJet, which is more expensive. If you want your chicks to be flown to you, be sure to state on your True North Order Form which airport you want to use. We will calculate the shipping costs and taxes to finalize your invoice. On hatch day your chicks will be delivered to the airport and checked in. The driver will phone or text you to let you know what flight they will be on and when to expect arrival. Sometimes flights are delayed. Once your chicks have been checked in, the best source of information will be the airline. Extra ‘filler chicks’ may be included in your order during cold weather to add to the warmth. Have your brooder warm and temperature tested before the chicks arrive. We guarantee 100% live arrival. If chicks die during transport or within 48 hours of arrival please phone us and we will give you a credit or replacement chicks. Do not include the extras we may have given you or the filler chicks in your losses. We will only be responsible to the extent of the invoiced price of your chicks.

Shipping Chicks by Mail

Canada Post can bring your chicks to you if their Expedited Service (ground) can get them to you in 36 hours. Send us your postal code and we will be able to tell you if you are within that radius. Postage is much less than air cargo fees for small orders (up to 250 chicks) and of course much more convenient than driving to an airport, but it subjects the chicks to less than ideal conditions for a day or more; we do not guarantee 100% live arrival for chicks sent by mail.

Shipping Hatching Eggs

Hatching eggs to be shipped will be carefully packed in well-insulated boxes, but if very cold or hot weather is predicted along their route we may delay shipping until the weather is better. Eggs can be sent ‘collect’ on Greyhound, by prepaid Expedited mail by Canada Post, or with a courier (FedEx, UPS, etc) if you wish. Send your order in with a shipping service noted and we will add the costs to your invoice. Make sure you have given us all the information we need to get the box dropped off at the right place. Bus depots and warehouses are dangerous places for fragile eggs — please track your package and pick it up as soon as it arrives. Hatching eggs should be ‘rested’ for at least 12 hours at room temperature before being set. Parcels by bus or mail will be delivered to your nearest bus depot or post office, and you will be phoned to pick the chicks up. W will email you the tracking number, so you can be prepared. Make sure the telephone number you put on your order is a good one for them to reach you on Wednesday and Thursday.
